System Complete
What is all I need to get to bolt on a complete MSD ignition in my Camaro 350 SB 68?
that control the box? Distrubutor? What I'm missing to complete the ignition system?
MSD sells complete kits, all inclusive until the hardware. What components depends on how are willing to spend, implementation, and what exactly you want. MSD makes distributors ranging from $ 225 to $ 370, depending on whether you want points, two points, or upgrade to higher education institutions, mechanical or vacuum advance, etc. A good set of spark plug wires is a must, I suggest nothing less to 8 mm. MSD Ignition Boxes range from $ 105 - $ 450, depending also on the application. Do not go cheap on plugs, Autolite Platinum fire much better than its plug Champion of the mean, Accel spark plugs are fine (I use in my '79 Camaro) Splitfire claim to be the best, I have never used, does not seem to justify $ 6 per plug. Do not just MSD, shopping, Accel and Mallory also make excellent components. If you want the MSD-85551 MSD recommend the distributor (mechanical plug ahead) MSD-8361 or distributor (vacuum advance), along with the MSD-6420 ignition box (MSD 6AL control with soft touch rev) MSD-8202 MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD-31193 (black cables) or MSD-31199 (network plug wires) and your choice of plugs. My personal recommendation is the MAL Mallory-4748201 with electronic distributor vacuum advance, MSD 6AL ignition box, coil Accel ACC-8140 Superstock and 300 + Accel 8.8mm wires, part # ACC-7030, and any plugs Accel, AC Delco platinum or Autolite Platinum.
